This large metate and pestle are made from lava, which is not native to White Settlement, but the artifacts are.  This means that Indians moved into the area with the metate.  These were used to grind corn, wheat and grain into meal for cooking.  The corn is native to America and is not a hybrid like we would normally eat today.
